Men Do Cry

Men are almost 4 times more likely to commit suicide even though women are more likely to receive a depression diagnosis and make a suicide attempt. Men are underdiagnosed because of our culture, mainly patriarchal and religion, that demands to act in a way that suppress men emotion and feelings. Example of this is telling boys not to cry, dissed for being weak, or bullied when they are not showing dominance.

These exaggerated, often excessive expectation of what a man should be, is called toxic masculinity. Boys who grew up under such pressure, are conditioned to not express their emotion. Those bottled up emotion will eventually explode and be released in an explosive way, either explode in or explode out, and lead to depression.

It is a serious problem that rarely brought up. My project aims to spread awareness of toxic masculinity in Indonesia with social campaign through Instagram social media
